ChatGPT Is Now an Ad Platform in Europe and NVIDIA Wants to Buy Where AI Lives

By Marcos de Pedro

ChatGPT just became an ad platform in Europe. NVIDIA wants to buy the place where every AI model in the world lives. And one in three companies stopped buying software this year because AI built it for them instead.

Each of those three sentences lands directly inside your business. Here is what happened and what it means.

ChatGPT Is Now Monetized Through Advertising Across Europe

Last Monday, OpenAI switched on advertising inside ChatGPT across 31 European markets.

This is not a minor product update. When a tool monetizes through advertising, the incentive structure changes. The product is no longer optimized purely for the quality of your output. It is also optimized for your attention - for keeping you engaged, for surfacing content that serves advertisers, for shaping the experience around commercial relationships that have nothing to do with your query.

Every team inside your organization that uses ChatGPT as part of their workflow needs to understand that dynamic now. The tool they adopted because it gave them the most direct, useful answer is operating under a different set of incentives than it was last week.

NVIDIA Is in Talks to Acquire Hugging Face

NVIDIA is in advanced talks to acquire Hugging Face for roughly 13 billion dollars.

Hugging Face is where most open-source artificial intelligence models get published, downloaded, and distributed worldwide. It is the distribution infrastructure for the open AI ecosystem - the place developers, researchers, and businesses go to find models, share work, and access the tools that sit outside the commercial API providers.

If the company that manufactures the chips that run artificial intelligence also controls the platform where companies go to find and distribute AI models, the dependency map of the entire industry changes overnight. Open-source AI has functioned as a counterweight to the concentration of power in a handful of commercial labs. An NVIDIA acquisition of Hugging Face would restructure that balance in ways that are still being worked out - but the direction is clear.

For businesses that have built strategies around open-source models as an alternative to commercial dependency, this development is worth tracking closely.

One in Three Companies Replaced a Software Purchase With AI This Year

The McKinsey finding that deserves the most immediate attention for most business leaders: 32 percent of organizations have already skipped at least one software purchase this year because an artificial intelligence agent built the solution internally instead.

This number has two completely different implications depending on which side of it your business sits on.

If you sell software, 32 percent of your potential buyers are now asking whether they need to buy at all before they speak to a salesperson. That is a direct structural threat to pipeline that most software businesses have not yet built a response to.

If you buy software, this represents a budget opportunity that most finance teams have not touched. Every tool being evaluated for purchase is now a candidate for an AI-built internal alternative. The evaluation criteria have changed and the decision process that existed twelve months ago is no longer the right one.

The Question All Three Stories Share

Three different stories. Three different entry points into the same question.

ChatGPT shifting its incentives, NVIDIA potentially controlling open-source AI distribution, and a third of enterprises building software instead of buying it - each one requires someone inside your organization to read the move, understand the implications, and translate it into a decision.

Does your organization have that person? That process? That translation layer between what is happening in the AI industry and what your business does about it?

At Aliando, that is exactly what we provide. Not news. Decisions.
